America's Army: Special Forces 2.8.3

What's New
=============================================
Our goal is to tighten up the game, increase performance and reduce the size of
the installers. We improved the frame rate a great deal in this release. Some
people have reported as much as a 40% increase - although performance varies
based upon your specific system setup.

-Instant Action-
The new Instant Action mode of America’s Army allows you to quickly jump into
the AA action without the need to complete training first. Now with Instant
Action Recruit status you can play alongside veteran AA gamers and complete
training at your convenience. Instant Action is available on any mission that
is not restricted to Special Forces only players. You will need to complete
Basic Combat Training in order to achieve honor levels higher than Honor 20,
plus you'll gain the benefits of improving your skills as a soldier with each
training level you complete! Your Honor will remain at 20 until you pass BCT, at
which point you will receive all of the additional experience points you have
accrued.

-AA Loader-
The new AA Loader checks your version of the game to ensure you are up to date
with the most current release. It also provides easy links to other community
tools and support information. The AA Loader requires Internet Explorer 6.0 or
later be installed on your system.

-Flashbang-
The flashbang has been tuned a bit to make it more realistic. The effectiveness
has been reduced when used outdoors. Also the blackout duration has been
reduced.

-Weapon Reloading-
Weapons reload faster then before. Fixing jams and using the
supported/unsupported function are also quicker now.

-Every Soldier is a Sensor (ES2)-
Every Soldier, as a part of a small unit, is a potential information collector
and an essential component in achieving situational awareness. The updated
SF Extraction mission includes new ES2 gameplay designed to embrace this
new ES2 philosophy.

-SAI Creation Tool-
The AA Mission Editor now includes tools to help you set up and capture images
for use with the Situational Awareness Indicator (SAI). You can customize
the captured images and import them into your maps to enable simple SAI
functionality. Look in the 'Tools/SAI Map Image Tools' menu to give it a try.

AMERICA'S ARMY MEDIC TRAINING HELPS SAVE A LIFE

AMERICA'S ARMY MEDIC TRAINING HELPS SAVE A LIFE
Posted: 18 JAN 08, by Phoenix

Silver Spring, MD (January 17, 2008) - A longtime America's Army

player became a first responder at a tragic car accident last November
by employing life saving techniques he learned by playing the America's Army game. Twenty-eight year old Paxton Galvanek
was able to evaluate and treat the victims at the scene. Paxton
credited the combat medic training he completed in the popular America's Army
online PC game with teaching him the critical skills he needed to react
appropriately in this crisis situation. This is the second time an America's Army
player has reported successfully using medical skills learned through
playing the game to respond in a life-threatening situation.

In order to assume the role of combat medic in the America's Army game,
players must go through virtual medical training classes based on the
actual training that real Soldiers receive. The creators of America's Army

developed the training scenarios with young adults in mind, recognizing
their need to be able to respond in emergency situations. Through the
game, players learn to evaluate and prioritize casualties, control
bleeding, recognize and treat shock, and administer aid when victims
are not breathing.

"Because of the training he received in America's Army's
virtual classroom, Mr. Galvanek had mastered the basics of first aid
and had the confidence to take appropriate action when others might do
nothing. He took the initiative to assess the situation, prioritize
actions and apply the correct procedures," said Colonel Casey
Wardynski, America's Army Project Director. "Paxton is a true
hero. We are pleased to have played a role in providing the lifesaving
training that he employed so successfully at the scene."

After the incident, Galvanek wrote the America's Army team
to thank them for including the medical training in the game. He said,
"I have received no prior medical training and can honestly say that
because of the training and presentations within America's Army,
I was able to help and possibly save the injured men. As I look back on
the events of that day, the training that I received in the America's Army video game keeps coming to mind."

"I remember vividly in section four of the game's medic training,
during the field medic scenarios, I had to evaluate the situation and
place priority on the more critically wounded. In the case of this
accident, I evaluated the situation and placed priority on the driver
of the car who had missing fingers. I then recalled that in section two
of the medic training, I learned about controlled bleeding. I noticed
that the wounded man had severe bleeding that he could not control. I
used a towel as a dressing and asked the man to hold the towel on his
wound and to raise his hand above his head to lessen the blood flow
which allowed me to evaluate his other injuries which included a cut on
his head," said Galvanek.

Galvanek's Story:

On November 23, 2007, Galvanek was driving West-bound on I-40 in North
Carolina with his family. About 25 miles south of Raleigh he witnessed
an SUV on the east-bound lanes lose control of the vehicle and flip
about five times. While his wife called 911, he stopped his vehicle and
ran across the highway to the scene of the accident.

Assuming the role of first responder, he quickly assessed the situation
and found two victims in the smoking vehicle. Needing to extract them
quickly, he helped the passenger out of the truck and noticed he had
minor cuts and injuries. He told the man to stay clear of the smoking
car and quickly went to the driver's side where he located a wounded
man. He pulled the driver to safety on the side of the road.

Galvanek immediately noticed the man had lost two fingers in the
accident and was bleeding profusely. The victim had also suffered head
trauma. Galvanek located a towel, put pressure on the man's hand, and
instructed him to sit down and elevate his hand above his head while
pressing the towel against his lost fingers. Galvanek then attended to
his head cut and determined that injury was not as serious as his hand.

Roughly five minutes later, an Army Soldier in plain clothing arrived
on the scene of the accident and informed Galvanek that he was
medically trained and could take over until the paramedics arrived. He
looked over the injured men and told Galvanek that he had done a great
job. Once the Soldier assured Galvanek that the two men were in stable
condition and there was nothing more he could do to assist until the
paramedics arrived, Galvanek left the scene and continued on his
journey.

Welcome to the America's Army v3.0 forums!

- "AA3" refers to the entire next-gen America's Army platform (with the initial public release being AA v3.0). We will continue the iterative development model we have been using in AA2 by regularly adding new content and updates (v3.0, v3.1, v3.2, etc. with the ability for mini updates in between major releases).

- The AA3 platform will be an entirely new game, built from the ground up using Epic Game's Unreal Engine 3. This means we're creating everything from scratch - all new ***ets, all new missions, all new sounds, and all new weapons.

- We are currently targeting a Fall 2008 initial release date (v3.0).

- The exact AA3 minimum/recommended specs have yet to be determined and likely won't be for a while. The goal is to make the game as scalable and accessible as possible while also taking full advantage of the latest technology available. The specs will likely be similar to Unreal Tournament 3 specs when that releases for the PC this Fall.

- Players will be creating a new player account for AA3; however, we're pursuing ways to tie in your original AA2 account/character, such as giving special AA3 achievements to veteran AA players with confirmed AA2 accounts.

- At this time, we are planning to support both the Windows XP and Windows Vista operating systems for AA3. By the time we ship, UnrealEngine3 (and thus AA3) will likely have support for both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10.

- The initial release of AA3 (AA v3.0) will be the core game with content updates consistently being rolled out. To put that in perspective, the AA2 game you currently have now (v2.8.1) is the result of 20+ major releases and 6 years of development.

- The AA2 platform is far from dead! We're still developing future content for the current generation of America's Army as well. There are many cool new features and levels coming to AA2 (and this will likely continue through the initial AA3 release).

I hope this information answers some of the general questions you may have had about the future of America's Army on the PC. More information about AA3 will be coming in the future as we get closer to the release.

Please remember that anything stated in these forums by official America's Army staff is subject to change. We are striving to keep the community as informed as possible, but we are operating in a dynamic environment.

We are all very excited about the future of America's Army and we can't wait to share it with you all. Until then however, please use this forum section to discuss all things AA3 related.
